LumLum (the Northern Thai slang word for “delicious”) totally transformed the tiny two-room space on West 49th Street, making it look decorative and tropical, with bamboo walls, basket lampshades, potted jungle plants, and old-school advertising posters. A bar with a full stock so you can chill and sip on a cocktail like the Pha Ngan Full Moon, a tasty lavender blend of rum, coconut milk, lemon, and butterfly pea blossoms. There are also some whole fish, like the tasty branzino fried with bright bird’s-eye chiles and served with a bunch of fresh herbs, little green peppercorns like grapes dangling from a vine, and galangal – that’s a fancy way of saying ginger’s cousin.

9. Mari Korean Handroll Bar
Dinner at Mari costs $125, which is a lot compared to most places we usually eat, but it’s still a great deal compared to some tasting menu or omakase options around town. The space is cozy and chic, with a little dining room in the back and a four-sided chef’s counter around the open kitchen. You get twelve courses (one of which is made up of five different items), and each one is really exciting, new, and packed with big flavors. From start to finish, it takes about 90 minutes – it’s just the right amount of time for a really enjoyable night out. Mari’s rice is seasoned the traditional way of kimbap. At the heart of the menu are the hand rolls, kinda like mini tacos inspired by kimbap, the super popular rice snack from Korea that can have all kinds of stuff inside of it.

Try their homemade tuna steak, delicious deviled eggs and generous carnitas to get a taste of what Hold Fast is like. Their creative staff reflects the style and character of this bar. It’s said that the prices here are fair. When you take a look inside Hold Fast, you’ll see its sophisticated decoration.
