SoHo in New York is a district known for its cast iron buildings, fashion stores and busy streets. Did you know that this cool name is actually short for South of Houston?
Well, Houston is a street that goes across east-west, just below the area where the streets start using numbers instead of letters. SoHo, of course, is located south of this street. This neighborhood is widely used as a location for films like The Goodfather and tv shows, and so don’t be shocked if the street is blocked off for a shooting.
After a few minutes strolling these streets you will immediately feel the need to update your closet, you’re in fashion district, such as in one of the sneaker stores like Converse SoHo Flagship Store. The real fashion addicts especially enjoy this cobblestone streets. There are plenty of places to enjoy a quick meal or coffee, but the best is McNally Jackson Bookstore, where they serve the best cappuccino and scones you’ll ever taste in New York. McNally Jackson is right on Prince Street, a cool street where you can keep your shopping going.
Enjoy a cocktail from the Mercer Hotel or hit a rooftop bar like JIMMY at ModernHaus, for a drink with a great views. Other fun spots include Café Select on Lafayette Street: a good coffee bar with a Swiss touch. Fancy a good slice of pizza? Lucia Pizza or Prince Street Pizza are the best choices.
When it gets dark, the best thing to do is to have a drink in the nearby Meat Packing (MePa) district. If you still want to stay a little longer in SoHo you can hang around Grand Street, have a nice Pho soup at Pho Grand or a few beers at Twenty Three Grand.
