Citifari (www.citifari.com) offers photo tours of New York City. We found that it is often complicated to find original spots for people to get the right composition in their picture at the right time of the day.
They have scouted the city for these spots and times and are organizing them into photo tours. They offer 4 different photo tours:
- A landmarks tour in midtown (http://www.citifari.com/landmark-photo-tour.htm),
- A tour of Central Park (http://www.citifari.com/central-park-photo-tour.htm)
- A night tour (http://www.citifari.com/nightphototour.htm)
- And, since the last season, a SOHO tour (http://www.citifari.com/soho-photo-tour.htm)Both local and tourist photo-enthusiasts go to citifari to learn about their cameras, get the feedback from professional photographers and capture amazing pictures.
Citifari’s guides are prepared to help anyone get up to speed with the basics of photography and to get comfortable with the manual mode of their camera. The tricky part with pictures in NYC is that the sun has to be hitting at the right place at the right time as there is a high probability for it to be just behind a building when you were just about to take your shot.
New York is a very photogenic city and there are endless possibilities for pictures. A wide angle lens is often useful as the buildings are so tall and there is little room for stepping back and capture them. Also panoramas are great, and a good spot to get a panorama is the top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center rather than the obvious Empire State Building. Top of the Rock allows you to actually see the Empire, and, as a bonus, you will skip the long lines. For skyline shots, go either to Hoboken or Jersey City for sunrise views or Dumbo, Long Island City at sunset. The bridges also look amazing from that point of view at night.
