A free downtown exhibition built from food cans
Canstruction NYC 2026 is at Brookfield Place through November 9, turning unopened cans of food into large-scale sculptures. Architects, engineers and contractors build the structures, then the food goes to City Harvest when the exhibition comes down. It is an easy Battery Park City stop for a lunch break or an afternoon with the kids—and a good reason to bring a can of food along.

What to see
The competition rewards more than size. Categories include structural ingenuity, original design and the use of can labels: look closely at how ordinary packaging becomes color and texture. You can vote for the People’s Choice award, too. Pick up a children’s activity sheet at the information table for a more hands-on way to explore.
Guided tours and food donations
The remaining scheduled tours are November 4 at 5:30pm, November 5 at noon and November 7 at 11am. Places are limited and advance registration is required through the Brookfield Place event page.
Drop off canned food at the information table in the Winter Garden. The collection supports City Harvest alongside the cans used in the sculptures.
Make an afternoon of it
Pair the exhibition with our Financial District guide, or find another nearby outing in the NYC events calendar. Canstruction closes on November 9, so this is one to catch this week.
