The Governors Ball Music Festival in Randall’s Island kicked off this summers opening weekend festivities. However, it wasn’t the only event in town. Bushwick launched its own festivities on Friday with the Bushwick Collective block party on Troutman Street & St. Nicholas Avenue. This is their 5th year running the event, which is a 3 day affair, bringing the best in community, graffiti, music, street art, food trucks, and other local vendors. The event included live paintings on Bushwick walls by such artists like Mr. Trans1, Hoacs, Dasic Fernandez, Nychos, Sipros, and more. RIP Korn!

Music performances by Chris Rivers, Dave East, Joell Ortiz, and others.

Check out some of the highlight photos, videos, and FB live feeds from Saturday’s event.

The block party ends today, so if you have some time to kill leading up to tonight’s episode 7 of Game of Thrones “The Broken Man”, we suggest you get a few cold ones in before heading home. We hear it will be intense.

Our bar haven of choice is “Heavy Woods” on Wyckoff, where the drinks won’t betray you like those folks at Castle Black.

Heavy Woods | 50 Wyckoff Avenue

The bar menu consists of 14 craft beers and some great whiskey selections. Food is New Orleans Style BBQ. Need we say more!

Union Pizza | Address:423 Troutman St, Brooklyn, NY 11237

Cash-only outfit serving wood-fired pies, salads & unique wines in a garage like space with a patio. Oh yeah and like we said, bring cash.

The Rookery Bar | 425 Troutman St, Brooklyn, NY 11237
A contemporary Brooklyn Pub housed in an industrial space, with an outdoor front beer garden and 16-foot horseshoe bar. Right next door to Union Pizza, if the menu doesn’t agree with you.

The nearest subway station to the event is the L train to Jefferson.
