Little Island is a unique and vibrant public park located on the Hudson River in New York City, specifically at Pier 55 in the Chelsea district. Opened on May 21, 2021, this innovative green space has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike, thanks to its stunning design and array of activities.

A Futuristic Oasis

Little Island stands out with its futuristic design, supported by 132 concrete “tulips” that rise above the water, creating a whimsical landscape reminiscent of leaves floating on the river. The park is home to over 350 species of plants, including 35 types of trees and 65 types of shrubs, making it a lush oasis amid the urban environment. Visitors can stroll along winding paths that lead to elevated viewpoints offering breathtaking panoramas of Manhattan and New Jersey.

Performance Spaces

The park features two performance venues:
The Amph, a 687-seat amphitheater that hosts a variety of performances ranging from opera to folk music, all with the backdrop of stunning sunsets over the Hudson River.
The Glade, a smaller venue perfect for intimate performances and children’s events.

Regular shows provide an opportunity for guests to enjoy art in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Secret Garden

One of the highlights of Little Island is its “secret garden,” filled with diverse flowers and peaceful spots perfect for relaxation. There are also three grassy areas where visitors can enjoy picnics or simply soak up the sun while being surrounded by nature. The park’s design encourages exploration and offers numerous nooks for quiet reflection.

Little Island is easily accessible via two pedestrian bridges from the Hudson River Greenway, making it a convenient stop for those exploring nearby attractions like the High Line, Chelsea Market, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. The park is open daily from 6 AM to 12 AM, with free entry; however, timed reservations are required during peak hours.

Whether you’re looking to catch a performance, enjoy a leisurely stroll among beautiful flora, or simply unwind by the river, Little Island offers an enchanting escape from the hustle and bustle of New York City. Its blend of art, nature, and community makes it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring this vibrant metropolis.
