New York City’s rite of spring, an annual event runs April through mid-May celebrating the Japanese tradition of cherishing cherry blossom season. Once spring has sprung, one of our first stops will be to see the cherry blossoms in NYC. is The Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. But, there are more spots to enjoy sping in New York City:
CENTRAL PARK
The Kwanzan Cherry and Yoshino Cherry in bloom from April to May, coming into bloom before any of the other flowering trees in the park.
BROOKLYN BOTANICAL GARDEN
See over 200 cherry trees in flower at Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival. The Cherry Blossom Esplanade is worth visiting anytime before then to experience the blooms.
QUEENS BOTANICAL GARDEN
Once you have enjoyed the Cherry circle why not take in the Bird Walk with NYC Audubon. There are five free nature walks, most taking place in April and May when the cherries should be at their best.
RIVERSIDE PARK
Try the Cherry Walk between 100th St and 125th St to experience a carpet of pink on the ground and a profusion of bloom overhead. (Upper West Side of Manhattan)
ROOSVELT ISLAND
Most events are free and they have a line up of artists presenting Japanese dance, and music.
